Carl King makes his Center Stage Opera debut as Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro during their 2009 season. The San Jose Mercury News called him “…a promising young baritone with a real sense of comic timing…” when referring to his portrayal of Leporello in Don Giovanni. Mr. King spent four years with Opera San Jose as a Guest Artist and won critical acclaim for his interpretation of the bel-canto repertoire most notably as Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia, Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’Amore, and Dr. Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

Mr. King created the role of The Doctor in the world premiere of Carlos Franzetti’s Corpus Evita in a joint production with The San Francisco Camerata and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aries. He reprised the role in the studio recording for Amapola Records which received a Grammy Nomination in 2005.

Mr. King is a 3 time recipient of The National Federation of Music Clubs Fellowship as an Artist in Residence at Opera in the Ozarks. He has performed with several regional and national opera companies including Arizona Opera, Opera Pacific, Springfield Regional Opera, Festival Opera of Walnut Creek, Lamplight Theatre, Opera Festival of Oklahoma, and Phoenix Metropolitan Opera. His role credits include Marcello in La Bohème, Jack Rance in La Fanciulla del West, Morales in Carmen, Frank in Die Fledermaus, The Four Villains in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Henry Davis in Street Scene, Mme. Armfeldt in A Little Night Music, Barone Douphol in La Traviata, The Husband in Amelia Goes to the Ball, Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, and the title roles in The Mikado, Gianni Schicchi, and Verdi’s Falstaff. Mr. King currently resides in Orange County, California in the community of Ladera Ranch.
